Sea Moss, is also known as Irish Moss, and the specific strand that we have available is Genus Gracilaria, and is very similar to Chondrus Crispus. Although it is jam packed with benefits, it still needs to be coupled with a nutrient dense diet to obtain its full list of benefits. Here are just a few listed below.
Since our sea moss is thoroughly washed and dried, it doesn’t contain a lot of the salt, sand, and other debris that other sea moss retailers may have. That means that you will receive the full weight of your sea moss without all the extras. It comes cleaned, dried, and ready to use out the package. This also means that your sea moss will have a very mild and palatable taste.
There is a lot of debate and speculation around which sea moss is better. I’m not here to tell you, but let’s weigh it out.
Besides the obvious variation in color, purple and gold sea moss also have variations in benefits. Every fruit and vegetable naturally produces a chemical called phyto-chemicals or phyto-nutrients. In short, phyto-nutrients are what give plants, fruits, and veggies their color, and are produced by plants as a way to ward off insect and viral attacks, as well as protect them from their sometimes harsh natural environments like extreme heat, cold etc. Phyto-nutrients are extremely beneficial to humans because in a way, they provide some of the same protections.
Gold sea moss contains yellow phyto-nutrients. This group of phytonutrients are know to promote heart health, eye health, skin health due to being rich in collagen, are rich in vitamin C, have anti- inflammatory properties, assist in cell communication, good for the gastrointestinal tract, and the gut microbiome… just to name a few.
Purple sea moss contains purple phyto-nutrients which contain anthocyanins, are extremely beneficial in reducing inflamation, fighting viruses, fighting against cancer cells, help lower blood sugar, specifically targets brain cells and helps them communicate better with each other, which helps to boost brain function, and helps to protect against diabetes by regulating insulin levels in the blood. The list is far more extensive but these are just a few benefits.
Green sea moss, which is very rare, and only found in our Premium RAINBOW sea moss orders, is high in green phyto-nutrients as well as a high content of chlorophyll.
Green phyto-nutrients are rich in cancer blocking chemicals like sulforaphane, isocyanate which inhibit the growth of carcinogens (cancer- causing compounds). Some benefits of chlorophyll include stimulating the immune system, preventing cancer, blood detoxification, fungus and mucous elimination, acne treatment, helps with the production of red blood cells, and is also high in antioxidants.
As you can see, each color moss has specific bodily functions that it targets, but they share some of the same properties as well like mucous elimination, fighting off viruses, heart health, and bone health. The fact of the matter is its all up to you and what health benefits you are seeking or which ailments you are trying to treat.
Dry sea moss doesn’t like moisture and has the tendency to mold if it’s kept in a damp or moist area for too long. It’s best to store sea moss in a cool ( room temperature ) dry area, like a pantry or cabinet. DO NOT STORE IT IN THE REFRIGERATOR unless you’ve turned it into sea moss gel. Your sea moss will arrive in a large, lightweight, breathable polypropylene bag that you can tie off when you’re not using. This is perfect for long term storage in the conditions listed above.
Your sea moss powder will arrive in an air tight, zippable pouch which is perfect for storage. DO NOT STORE IT IN THE REFRIGERATOR because it has the tendency to clump when introduced to moisture. The best place to store sea moss powder is in an air tight container, and in a cool, dry place like in a pantry or cabinet.
Storage tip: If your sea moss powder is sitting unused for a while, make sure to shake it around and agitate it a little so it doesn’t clump up. Our products are 100% natural, and no additives, or anti- clumping agents are added to our products.
The average shelf life of sea moss and sea moss powder is 2 years. Although in my experience, if the sea moss and sea moss powder are stored properly, you could get up to an extra year out of the shelf life.
